Getting started

Journal your mobile MT5 trades

Keep trading on your phone. Learn how desktop MT5 or a VPS sends your account activity to Chart Reporter without sharing your broker password.

You can keep trading on your phone. Chart Reporter turns your MT5 trading activity into a journal where you can review trades, track net performance and spot patterns in your decisions.

There is one setup step to do on a computer: run the Chart Reporter Expert Advisor (EA) in desktop MetaTrader 5, signed into the same broker account you use on mobile. A VPS running desktop MT5 can do this too. The MT5 mobile app cannot run an EA.

You do not need to download or install anything on your phone to read this guide.

From your phone to your journal

Trade on mobile. Sync through MT5.

MT5 mobile → your broker account → desktop MT5 with the EA → Chart Reporter.

Your broker password stays in MT5. Chart Reporter receives trading data, not your broker login credentials.

The desktop or VPS must use the same broker account and stay running. The EA cannot capture your phone’s screen.

Why a desktop or VPS?

When you place a trade on your phone, your broker records it against your trading account. Desktop MT5 sees activity for that same account. Our EA runs there and sends the trading data to your Chart Reporter journal.

We do not ask you to hand over your broker password. You sign into your broker inside MT5. You give the EA a separate Chart Reporter API key so it can send data to your journal. That key is not a broker login.

Chart Reporter is a reporting tool: the EA does not open, modify or close trades. You remain in control of trading through MT5.

Choose where MT5 will run

  • Your computer: use an existing desktop MT5 installation. Keep the computer awake, online and MT5 running with the EA attached when you want to sync.
  • A VPS: use a remote computer running desktop MT5 and the EA. It can stay online when your own computer is off. Choose a setup that supports desktop MT5, EAs and outbound WebRequests.
  • Only a phone for now: explore the guided demo. Return to setup when you have access to a desktop or suitable VPS; installing more apps on your phone will not run the EA.

Your phone does not have to remain open for the EA to report account activity. The desktop or VPS does.

Set it up when you reach a computer

  1. Open Chart Reporter on your computer and sign into the same Chart Reporter account you created on your phone. You do not need a second signup.
  2. In desktop MT5, sign into the same broker account and server shown in your mobile MT5 app. A different account will report different trades.
  3. Open your Chart Reporter setup guide to install the EA, allow its WebRequest destination and enter your Chart Reporter API key. Use the destination shown in your setup guide for your environment.
  4. Leave the EA attached to a chart, with MT5 running and connected to the internet.
  5. Check the connection and imported trades in your Chart Reporter setup guide.

You do not need to enable Algo Trading for reporting. Do not place a new trade just to complete setup: use existing account activity to verify the journal when available.

What you will see in your journal

The EA reports trading activity from the connected account, including trades you placed on mobile. Chart Reporter uses profit, commission and swap when calculating net PnL.

Your phone's chart screenshots are not captured. The EA cannot see your mobile screen, drawings or indicators. If screenshots are enabled in the EA, it may capture charts from the desktop or VPS terminal instead; those are not pictures of your mobile setup. Historical imports do not recreate the screenshots you would have seen when placing a trade.

Connected is different from synced

An online terminal means Chart Reporter has received the EA's heartbeat. An imported trade confirms trading data has reached the journal. If the connection is online but no trades appear, check the selected account and filters rather than placing another trade as a test.

If the desktop sleeps, loses its connection or closes MT5, live reporting stops. Keep it running for ongoing syncing; do not rely on a later import to reconstruct every missed event or screenshot. Use Troubleshoot missing or delayed data if activity is missing.

Ready for the next step?

On your phone, use the desktop handoff link in Chart Reporter's setup guide, or save this page for later. On your computer, continue with the same setup guide. If you want to look around first, try the guided demo.
